Champion of Small Businesses
Cathy is a Florida native and has been a St. Lucie County resident for over 30 years, and has established herself as a small business owner. Having owned and operated an assisted living facility for eleven years, and a bed and breakfast for 10 years. She understands the challenges that face the local small business community. Working full time as County Commissioner, District 5, her husband James "Bud" King runs the day to day operations of their currently owned Flat Land Mowing company.
Cathy believes that public service is a privilege to better the lives of others. It is not an opportunity to satisfy personal gains.
"I am of the opinion that my life belongs to the whole community and as long as I live, it is my privilege to do for it whatever I can."
~George Bernard Shaw

I believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to engage in meaningful work and to acquire assets that help their families support themselves and advance economically. Yet, St. Lucie County has one of the highest median property taxes in the US. This alone can lead to financial insecurity that not only destabilizes families, it erodes the vitality of our region.
